Jeff has spent a number of years teaching and administrating for TESOL institutes in Canada and Asia. Jeff ’s TESOL experience includes China (Chengdu University of TCM), South Korea (Daejon College and Ulsan University), Japan (Kyoto Notre Dame University) and Canada (University of Regina, Prairie Graduate School, Alberta Bible College, and Calgary International Learning Centre. Jeff holds a BA in Anthropology, a BA (Honours) and a MA in Linguistics as well as the CELTA. Jeff is currently working on his PhD at Eastern University in Philadelphia with a focus on issues of identity and leadership amongst language learners.

ESL - English as a Second Language. This term is most often used to describe the teaching of English in a native-English speaking country to non-native English speakers. For example, a native Spanish-speaking child learning English in a Canadian classroom would be studying ESL.

EFL – English as a Foreign Language. The term commonly used to describe the teaching of English in a country where it is not the first language – it is a foreign language. For example, when a Korean student is learning English in , they are studying EFL.

TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language. This term is commonly used in the worldwide context to describe the teaching of English in a country where English is not the native language. This is the term commonly used in overseas job postings.

TESL – Teaching English as a Second Language. This term is usually used to describe the teaching of the English language in a country where English is the native language.
